Originally built by Tobias Koffel in 1877, During its early years, Lansdale’s retail trade occupied both sides of the railroad tracks on West Main Street. The borough’s busiest traffic corner then – and now – was Main and Broad Streets.
This building had several owners before James M. Slifer took over and ran a combination general merchandise and dry goods store here into the 1920's.
Many other businesses came and went including Daub’s Hardware, Joe’s Market, and Unity Frankford. This photo is from about 1930.
Notice how the first floor was lowered to street level over the years.
As the building was expanded to three storefronts, other types of businesses moved in. This photo is from 1951.
Among the most memorable were Daub Hardware and Sallie Ann's, a favorite lunch stop for shoppers and businesspeople over the years.
McQuillin’s Photography Studio now occupies the east side of the building along with a clock shop and Thai restaurant.
